A Quilt for Our Son

I had to do some searching per my sons request for a technical or digital like pattern in greenish and bluish colors.  I found some on fabric.com and at this time, they have the best pricing for what I need.

This quilt suits him, as he is currently working in the IT field.  However, he has been playing and using a computer since he was a toddler.

Right meow I’m figuring out which quilt block to use, or if I should just start cutting and laying a block out.  I should probably keep it in a simple layout.  Our son doesn’t like to complicate things.  He’s very straight and to the point, but gives great details.

I’m going to try creating a square in Excel this time, so I can use it as a reference.

I created two of the blocks in the pic to the left using:

  • Blue Chenille
  • Silver Velvet
  • Digital Cotton

I’m finding out how difficult it can be trying to sew chenille and velvet.  It doesn’t stay inline like cotton fabrics.  Curved Quilting Safety Pins and Clips will help delicate fabric stay in line. As you stitch adjusting clips accordingly.

I had to ask my son his opinion on the layout. We moved a few squares around and to the left is the top of his quilt.

This time I used satin ribbon for the binding. It’s a little tight.  It should’ve been at least 3″ wide because half of it will be front and the other half will show on the backside. I need more practice with satin.

Sometimes getting started is the hardest part.  I start small with a square idea and a simple shape.  I’m still learning.

I used some of the leftover fabrics and made a little bin for his desk. He thanked me and really likes his quilt.
