How do I Shorten or Hem Drapery Panels

Hello readers:

I originally purchased lined drapes with like a Jacobean pattern to go with our Worldly like theme in the Living Room. I like the puddled look, so I chose the 91 inch panels.

Spring 2024 has arrived, and so have the Spiders. I opened the front door one day and didn’t close it in time for the BIG Spider to enter. I shrieked and my husband always gets aggravated with me. I said: Kill it! Kill it! After, it got away, Jason went to find the Spider spray, which I hate to use inside because of our cats; Rocket and Takarra. After, the little bugger traveled from one side of the drapes to the other, it ended up in my Yoga Mat. I used the Dyson on both ends of the rolled up mat, and I believe it’s gone now.

Jason said I should shorten the drapes, so this is how I started.

1st, I measure from the front of the double curtain rod to 2 inches from the floor which will make the panel 84 inches long after hemming.

2nd, I mark the panels at 83.25 inches by using my square using a favorite writing instrument of mine Sharpie S Gel .7 in blue ink. Turned out to 7 1/2 inches from bottom.

3rd, Use curved safety pins to fasten the panel and lining at the seam line.

4th, Cut.
