A 3rd Cousin Quilt 2022 #1

Quilt #1

A few years ago or more, I started picking up fabric pieces that I like for my first third baby cousin.  She just turned eight years old and I’ve just started her quilt.  Now I’m thinking Heirloom instead of baby quilt.

As this will be my first attempt at a quilt, I’m sure it will not be perfect.  That being said, I’m still hoping she will like it.

I start by cutting five inch squares and create stacks of different patterns.

Next, I start sewing them together good print front to good print front and make a strip of each patterns squares.  I leave about 1/4″ to the right of the needle.

Now I’m questioning whether I purchased enough fabric for this.  I want to make this a full size like 80″ x 90″.

One of my little cousins favorite colors is Lavender and I’ve been wondering what the back should look like.  This Soft Minky Dot Fabric is what I found on Amazon.  I cut it into 20 inch squares.  Extra print fabric squares allowed me to get a little creative with the back.

I’m beginning to sew the backside together meow.  I can’t wait to see it once it’s complete.

The back is smaller than I figured at 1st measure. I screwed up sewing the front and am thinking about cutting out the section and making a new one.  Mistakes happen, this is only my 1st one.  I feel like my cutting skills are getting better through this though.

Finished

The 1st 3rd Cousin big quilt and all 3 are currently on a delicate wash.  I know, the pics could be better.

This is how the front turned out. I really overthought the making of this quilt. I should’ve just started with cotton only.

Not so even at the end.

I have extra fabric from this project.  I made a fabric flower and added it to the front of this quilt.

I finally got to give my little 3rd Cousin her Quilt at an early Halloween Party we had. I was nervous to see if she would like it.  She was immediately excited and wrapped it around her.

No.1a – Small 3rd Cousin Quilt 20″ x 23″

It’s very similar to my No.1.  I could tell the stitches were getting better.  I’m experimenting and figuring out which stitches I can use with which presser foot.
