How do I Shorten or Hem Drapery Panels

Hello readers: I originally purchased lined drapes with like a Jacobean pattern to go with our Worldly like theme in the Living Room. I like the puddled look, so I chose the 91 inch panels. Spring 2024 has arrived, and so have the Spiders. I opened the front door one day and didn’t close it in time for the BIG Spider to enter. I shrieked and my husband always gets aggravated with me. I said: Kill it! Kill it! After, it got away, Jason went to find the Spider spray, which I hate to use inside because of our cats; Rocket and Takarra. After, the little bugger traveled from one…

    Velvet Hair Scrunchies

I found some Dark Red Velvet, and I just fell for it. This should probably be easier than I’m experiencing. Please be advised, Velvet is a very delicate fabric.  I’m learning about it by watching videos and reading on blogs.   My advice is take your time by using a close stitch and stitching slowly because the fabric moves very easily. Here’s what I use for the scrunchie: I’m making quite of few of these. I start by using the E6000 and adhering the Silver Sequin Strip to the center of the right side of the Red Velvet. Let it dry completely. Next, fold Red Velvet in half right or good…

    A Quilt for Our Son

I had to do some searching per my sons request for a technical or digital like pattern in greenish and bluish colors.  I found some on fabric.com and at this time, they have the best pricing for what I need. This quilt suits him, as he is currently working in the IT field.  However, he has been playing and using a computer since he was a toddler. Right meow I’m figuring out which quilt block to use, or if I should just start cutting and laying a block out.  I should probably keep it in a simple layout.  Our son doesn’t like to complicate things.  He’s very straight and to…

    Denim Shirt Jacket Project

I purchased a denim jacket online, which is already pretty cute. Next, I ordered some Black Lace and 2nd Black Lace to add.  I want to try decorating or experimenting to see how it will turn out. First, I try the bottom frayed hem to see how it looks. Next, I double layered the lace with the shorter satin side down atop the wider lace.  I was looking both ways at the layers and decided it looks better this way.  Here’s how it looks thus far: Next, I added lace and adornments to the sleeves. I’ve been holding on to an old silver linked bracelet that belonged to my great grandmother; Annabelle Sweet.  I…

    A 3rd Cousin Quilt 2022 #2

As you will see, my cutting skills have improved a little.  I found this Quilting Ruler Squares Set on Amazon.  These are helping me improve cutting as well as learning the different cuts you can learn with using them. So far I’ve had enough extra small strips of fabric that I’ve been able to stitch the binding together for the edge of the quilts. This one I kept simple to see what happens. I notice right away my cutting skills are in the making. Plus my stitch lines are getting better about not wandering off on me. I did have a few mistakes on the binding that need correcting. Hopefully my skills…

    A 3rd Cousin Quilt 2022 #1

Quilt #1 A few years ago or more, I started picking up fabric pieces that I like for my first third baby cousin.  She just turned eight years old and I’ve just started her quilt.  Now I’m thinking Heirloom instead of baby quilt. As this will be my first attempt at a quilt, I’m sure it will not be perfect.  That being said, I’m still hoping she will like it. I start by cutting five inch squares and create stacks of different patterns. Next, I start sewing them together good print front to good print front and make a strip of each patterns squares.  I leave about 1/4″ to the…

    Brother Sewing Machine Model: SQ9185

This is my 1st Sewing Machine. My husband gave it to me as a Gift quite a few years back. It took me a few years to even take it out of the box. My time is limited because I work full time and we travel. I finally decided I was going to get started. I read through the manual a little bit 1st and also watched a few video’s online to get an idea of my options to start. Keep your manual nearby as it is a great tool to reference for sewing feet, stitch length, stitch design, thread tension or tightness, etc… I should be a wiz at…

Deciding to Practice and Start Small

First mini one(July of 2022).  It could be a doll or pet quilt or etc… I’m glad for the switch up to start smaller instead of making a big mistake on the 3rd Cousin Quilt. For some reason the quilting foot has stopped twice now and it just keeps stitching in the same place, so, I end up cutting multiple strands under my quilt and rethreading the lower bobbin.  Maybe it’s the thread or tension? I used basting spray to sandwich the back and front panel and also pinned it. 🦏 This is Quilting… First turn off the machine and raise the presser foot lever. On my Brother SQ9185, there is a…
